Gdańsk is one of the major cities in Poland, located on the southern edge of Gdańsk Bay (of the Baltic Sea) in the delta of the Vistula river.

In a conurbation with the neighboring city of Gdynia, the resort town of Sopot, and suburban communities, which together form a metropolitan area called the Tricity (polish “Trójmiasto”), with a population exceeding 1 million people.

Gdańsk is also the capital of Pomerania Voivodeship and the largest city in the northern Poland.

The city is spread along the coast where you can find beautiful, wide and clean sand beaches. Gdańsk has more than a thousand years of complex history. It has established city rights since 1263.

For centuries it has been the most important seaport of the region and a wealthy commercial and industrial hub. The Gdańsk Shipyard is well known as the birth place for the Solidarity movement in 1980.

Most tourist attractions are located along or near Długa Street (Long Street) and Długi Targ (Long Market) in the very center of Gdańsk.

Naptune’s Fountain on the Long Market, St. Mary’s Basilica and the Crane over the Motlawa River are some of the most iconic places to visit.
